York Minster and Durham Cathedral - by James and Carl

Today we stopped in York on our way to Durham. In York we wandered around York Minster and found an amazing crypt that held the main pillar that used to hold up the Cathedral. In the York Minster we also saw the chapter house, which is the meeting place of all the bishops of England.

Next, we got back on the bus with sack lunch in hand and we headed on to Durham Cathedral. In this beautiful Romanesque church, we were led by our guide through the high alter and the underbelly seeing the predecessors of the church, a statue of Saint Cuthberg holding the head of Sir Oswald, and the tomb of Venerable Bede. On our tour we also learned that in the 1600s if you were accused of a crime you could go to a church and declare sanctuary for 33 days. Overall we had an amzing day and the best night of sleep on the trip so far.
